ABOUT THE BOOKS
"Congratulations. The fact that you're reading this means that you've taken one giant step closer to surviving till your next birthday. Yes you, sitting there reading this book. DO NOT PUT IT DOWN. I'm dead serious. Your life could depend on it. This is my story. The story of my family, but it could just as easily be your story, too. We're ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. Trust me on that. I've never done anything like this. So, i'm gonna jump in, and you try to keep up. I'm Max. I'm 14. I live withmy family, Who are 5 kids not realated to me by blood, but still totally my family. We're.. well, kinda of amazing. Not to sound too full of myself, but we're like nothing you've ever seen before. Basically, we're pretty cool. Nice. Smart. But NOT average in ANY way. The six of us, Me, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, The Gasman, and Angel were made on purpose. By the sickest, most HORRIBLE scientists you could possibly imagine. The created us as an experiment. An experiment where we only ended up 98% human. That other 2%, has had a BIG impact, lemme tell you. We grew up in a science lab slash prision, called the School. In cages. Like Lab Rats. It's pretty amazing we can think or speak at all. But we can. And so much more. There was one other School experiment that made it past infancy. Part Human. Part Wolf. ALL PREDATOR. They're called Erasers. They're tough, smart, and hard to control. They look human. But when they want to, they are capable of mophing into wolf MEN. Complete with fur, fangs, and claws. The School uses them as Guards, Police, and executioners. To them, we're six moving targets. Prey smart enough to be a fun challenge. Basically, they want to rip our throats out... and make sure the world never finds out about us. But I'm not just lying down just yet. I'm telling YOU, right? This story could be about you. Or your children. Not today. Soon. So please. PLEASE take this seriously. I'm risking everything that matters by telling you. But you need to know. Keep listening. Don't let anyone stop you."Maximum Ride is a story about 6 kids: Max, 14. Fang, 14. Iggy, 14. Nudge, 11. The Gasman (Don't ask why) is 8, and Angel is 6. They were created by the sickest scientists you'll ever meet. But, consider yourself lucky if you don't. They turned out 98% human. Oh, the other 2%? They're birds. Yep. They can fly. With real wings! A man, Jeb Batchelder captured them from the School, the place they were created in 4 years ago. 2 years ago, he disappeared. They all knew he had been killed. And they're on a mission to find their parents, find out if they were test-tube babies (which they weren't.) Max also finds out that she has to save the world, while escaping from Lupine-Humans, AKA Erasers. They're Wolf-creatures, who can also fly. They have razor-sharp fangs, and claws. Ari, Jeb Batchelder's son was turned into an Eraser when he was 3. He's 7 now. Jeb is also alive. Shocker, I know. Now the flock is running around the world, NYC, LA, Germany, Antarctica, places like that. There are 12 books in the series.

From the Publisher
Fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride and the other members of "Flock"-Fang, Iggy, Nudge, the Gasman and Angel--are just like ordinary kids, only they have wings and can fly (they are 98% human and 2% bird). It seems like a dream come true--except that they're still being hunted by new threats at every turn. This time, the U.S. government wants to keep the Flock under observation, offering a safe haven and schooling in return. But after their incredible adventures in books 1-3, Max and Flock have grown to love freedom-after all, haven't grown-ups always found a way to ruin their lives? After escaping the control of the feds, they are surprised to find themselves allied with a group of environmental scientists who just might be trustworthy. Besides, what enemy could find them in one of the remotest locations on earth-Antarctica-on an expedition studying the effects of global warming up close? There is one: The Uber-Director-literally, brains on a stick-an evil being who has developed mechanical soldiers far more frightening than Erasers. Their quest? To retrieve the Flock and sell them in a global auction for billions of dollars. Will the Uber-Director nab them before Max, Fang and the flock succumb to the dangers of the harsh Antarctic wilderness? Kids, parents and educators tuned into the issue of global warming will find this latest episode of the blockbuster Maximum Ride series not only a particularly riveting adventure beyond their wildest dreams, but also a motivating cautionary tale about a real-life peril that may affect their own future. Whether or not they survive is a question not even we know.

More about the movie:
In January 2007 it was announced that a film would be created based on the series.[citation needed] It will be based on the first three books in the series, but it is unknown whether or not the upcoming title will also be adapted. The action adventure will be produced by Avika Goldsman and Kerry Foster, written by Matthew Huffman and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is believed the film will be motion-captured animation, so all rumors that Amy Rose, who portrayed Max in the national commercial, are false. The voice-over, however, of who will portray Max is unknown. We expect updates early in 2008. Although Alfonso Cuaron has expressed interest as director. The movie itself will be based upon the three books in which Answers.com had known. The imagery, visual effects, and animation had been distributed by Sony Pictures Imageworks. [11] It is expected to be released in late 2008 or early 2009.
